I started Takizen’s World soon after taking refuge as a Buddhist. After my first blog, “Hello, World!”, I guess I got stage fright. What could I say about my journey as a Buddhist? What was Takizen’s World going to be about? I had just started another blog at the time, Artemisa’s Well — http://artemisaswell.blogspot.com/ — and I was having trouble posting regularly to that.

Then, in October of last year, the monks of Burma begin a powerful and popular protest against the military government there. The same generals who put Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest when her party won the popular vote several years ago, took brutal measures to bring the protest to an end. The Iraq War had put the struggle of Aung San Suu Kyi and her people in the shadow for many years. In October 2007 the passionate protest of Burma’s Buddhist monks and its violent put down by the military government brought the country’s struggle and the generals’ cruelty to its people to the world’s attention once again.

So I have dedicated this blog to focusing on the struggle of the Burmese people to live and care for their children in the extreme poverty brought on by their leaders’ utter selfishness and lack of wisdom and to survive the brutal denial of their human rights by a government supported almost entirely by the world’s growing demand for oil and natural gas.
